PP’s Tree planting near Bunyanyup River Trail

Pp'S Tree Planting Near Bunyanyup River Trail 1

Our Pre-Primary students participated in a tree planting workshop on the boundary of the school grounds on Tuesday 14 June facilitated by Joe (Environmental Scientist) & Carolyn (Sustainability Officer) from the City of Busselton. We planted local provenance plant species grown by Geographe Community Landcare Nursery and provided by the City of Busselton.

This engaging, hands-on experience will support the Semester One Biological, Earth and Space, Science topics. It will also add personal connection to our Cross-Curriculum priorities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, Connection to Country, and Sustainability outcomes. We are making connections in class to the local Buayanyup River. This pathway past our school links to the Buayanyup River trail extension and this initiative will help to improve the habitat of the Buayanyup River Catchment Area.

All Pre-Primary students planted one or more trees and Room 2 Year 6 were the responsible buddy class who mentored and supported the younger children.
Quite a few enthusiastic parents also attended.

On Wednesday 22 June, Lisa Massey, the Bay OK Project Officer from Geocatch came to Vasse PS to run an interactive Catchment Model incursion in the outdoor Pre-Primary area. This is a follow-up lesson for the involved students to consolidate their understanding and connection to the catchment in which we live and learn.
