Vasse Primary School “R U OK?” DAY

Vasse Primary School &Quot;R U Ok?&Quot; Day 1R U OK?’s mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them and support anyone struggling with life.

Their goals are to:
  1. Boost our confidence to meaningfully connect and ask about life’s ups and downs
  2. Nurture our sense of responsibility to regularly connect and support others
  3. Strengthen our sense of belonging because we know people are there for us
  4. Be relevant, strong and dynamic
R U OK asks you to remember the 4 steps to start a conversation:
  1. Ask R U OK
  2. Listen
  3. Encourage action
  4. Check in
Vasse Primary School share these values and goals and wanted to spread the message with their staff and students. The RULER TEAM who are responsible for implementing our school’s emotional intelligence program to staff, lead the whole school in a walk and talk session on R U Ok? Day on Thursday 13 Sept 2018. The 3 lap walk around the school oval included checkpoint signs to read and initiate meaningful conversation between students, peers and staff as well as some uplifting beats from DJ Brigitta Pollard (aka Dance & Drama Specialist). Deputy Principal Simon Mansfield closed the event summarizing the reasoning behind the event before ending on a highly positive note in a whole school free dance. The morning vibe was positive and reflective with a calm and inclusive feel which resonates with our school’s culture.
